Take a scroll

One of my favorite graphics is “The Depth of the Problem” by Richard Johnson and Ben Chartoff, published by The Washington Post. It creates insight of a depth when numbers go beyond understanding. How deep is 15.000 ft actually? What exactly is the problem?

It is strong in its simplicity and takes its audience by the hand. It uses references to sizes and distances we are still familiar with, several facts put into context, and creates the possibility to experience the depth by scrolling down to the bottom of the ocean to find the black box of MH370. An experience one doesn’t easily forget.
